Laurie Lee, well known as the author of Cider with Rosie, also wrote the story The Two Grannies, which Lyn Stone has just illustrated for a publisher. This illustration shows the three children visiting Granny Trill’s home. This story is included as an excerpt in a much larger English Language publication, as a teaching aid.

The illustration has been created using sepia ink with a nib, followed by very wet-in-wet water colours to create the softly blended colour effect. Lyn was trying to find a way to emulate the soft effect she is able to achieve in her pencil greyscale work, but using watercolour. We think she’s made a pretty good job of it too!

The second illustration represents their home. A typical t-shaped Cotswolds farmhouse – complete with ginger tom!
