This is a privately commissioned piece by renowned vector artist Jo Holdaway for a client in Toronto.
The brief – ‘I want a striking tribute to the King of Pop…..and make it large‘!
Sounds straightforward enough, but just how do you go about capturing an icon like Michael Jackson on canvas?
In Jo’s own words….
‘I started by making a digital illustration of MJ. I felt it important to immortalise him at the height of his success as a singer and performer and for me that could only be the ‘Bad’ era in ’88. The illustration was then scaled up and the outlines transferred to a canvas 90cm x 110cm. For the next 5 months it was me, a good set of acrylics and my paintbrushes. This is the result.
And a pretty good result it is too!
