New Zealand based illustrator Martin Bailey has been nominated for the country’s most prestigious children’s illustration prize – The Russell Clark Award.
His book, ‘My favourite Places’ which he wrote and illustrated in 2008 and was published through Mallinson Rendell, tells the story of a small boys journey through the countryside around his home.
As the child arrives at his favourite places, they transform in his imagination into somewhere more exotic. A stream becomes the Amazon, a gravel pile becomes a towering rockface, a fallen log becomes a pirate ship. The illustrations contain huge amounts of detail of local flora and fauna. Not just a good read, but educational too.
