‘Apps’ are all the rage! And they don’t come much better illustrated than this one.

Here are just a few of the backgrounds that Frank Grau did for his first interactive children’s book app for Ayars Animation, “Jack and the Beanstalk Children’s Interactive Storybook”, which was a top-selling iOS book app in 2010.

Interactive children’s books are created a lot like animated films in that you need to do backgrounds separately from all the other interactive elements as things need to move around and reveal previously unseen parts of the background. So when you read this iOS book, these backgrounds will be covered with characters. Seems a shame to hide them!
